About us
ASLS – Students’ Association from the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures was founded in May 1999. The initiative was supported by over 400 students, who felt the need to set up an organization which should represent their interests and discuss students’ issues within the Faculty Council. Ever since, ASLS has known a real development and proved itself to be a viable interlocutor both within the meetings held with the Dean and the Faculty Council, as well as the meetings with University of Bucharest leadership. ASLS closely supervises the distribution of student dorm seats for the students with the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, the process of deduction for RATB (local transportation company) season tickets and the granting of scholarships: study, excellence or social scholarships.
ASLS STRUCTURE
From the very beginning we must underline the fact that ASLS holds 10 votes in the Faculty Council (20%), divided as follows: one vote for each department representative and one vote for the Association’s Chairman. The departments are:
Classical and Romance lg. (Italian, Spanish, Portuguese)
English
French
German
Russian
Applied Modern Languages – AML
Hungarian
Oriental lg. (Arabic, Japanese, Chinese)
Slavic lg. (Bulgarian, Czech, Slovakian, Polish, Serbian, Croatian, Ukrainian)
Each department representative is elected every year, at the beginning of November. The mandate of the department representative and the Chairman unfolds for one year, and can be repeated only once. Two students are de facto members of the Faculty Council and they also represent the students with the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures in University of Bucharest Senate.
Why ASLS member?
Becoming a member is not so difficult. One must be a student with the above mentioned departments, and must be driven by the wish to be part of a dynamic group, whose main purpose is to promote different activities which involve the participation of our fellow students, a group which is determined to change things for the better and defend students’ interests in all situations.
The experience you will gain by joining ASLS may have a benefic influence on your future career perspectives.
